Register Multiple Guests on the Hotel Blacklist
Only verified accommodation providers will be successful using this register
Report a Banned Guest
Any verified accommodation provider can report a banned guest to the Global Hotel Blacklist. A report names an individual who has been reported for serious misconduct at your property, and once approved it is published on the public Do Not Rent register where other properties can find it.
Who can report a banned guest
Reporting is limited to verified accommodation providers – hotels, motels, serviced apartments, B&Bs, hostels and short-stay operators. Every account application is reviewed and verified before it is activated, which is why the form below opens only after you log in. Guests, agencies and members of the public cannot submit a record.
The 5 steps to blacklist a guest
- Create a hotel account and wait for it to be verified.
- Log in and open the reporting form.
- Enter the guest's full name, city, postcode and country, exactly as they appear on the booking.
- Select the category of misconduct and describe what happened.
- Attach your evidence and submit. The record is reviewed before it is published.
One submission can name a single guest or twenty – add a row per guest and the whole report travels together.
What qualifies as misconduct
Six categories: property damage, abusive behavior, illegal activities, disturbances, property theft and malicious reviews. What is guest misconduct sets out exactly what each one covers. A report that does not fall into one of the six will not be approved.
The evidence you need
A report must be justified and must include evidence or a statement of the misconduct. Useful evidence includes:
- Photographs of damage, and invoices for repairs or excessive cleaning.
- Incident reports written at the time by the staff involved.
- Correspondence with the guest, before or after the stay.
- A police report, where one exists.
- The booking record, including dates and the booking channel.
A report with no supporting detail will be rejected. This is a lifetime register and a published name has consequences for a real person, so the bar is deliberately set where a reasonable manager would set it.
What happens after you submit
The submission arrives as a pending record and is reviewed before anything is published. You are emailed on receipt, and again when the record is approved or rejected. Approved records appear on the register with a permanent reference, and show up in guest search within minutes.
When not to report a guest
A rejected report costs you the time it took to write and costs the register its credibility, so it is worth knowing which ones do not pass review.
- A booking dispute, a chargeback still in progress, or a bill under negotiation - wait for the outcome.
- A guest who was simply difficult, demanding or rude without crossing into abuse.
- A complaint about a review you disagree with, where the review is honest.
- Anything you cannot evidence, or heard about second-hand from another property.
- Anything motivated by a guest's nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexuality.
Your responsibilities
Discrimination, hate speech and harassment are not tolerated, and a report made for any of those reasons will be rejected and the account reviewed. A listed person can ask for a record to be reviewed through appeals and complaints, and you may be contacted as part of that investigation. Full detail is in the terms and conditions.
Report a banned guest: common questions
How long does approval take?
Every record is reviewed by a person, so it is not instant. You are emailed when the decision is made, either way, and an approved record is searchable within minutes of that email.
Can I report several guests from one incident?
Yes. Add a row per guest in the same submission. Each one becomes its own record with its own name, location and category, and they are reviewed together.
What if I need a record taken down later?
Email admin@hotelblacklist.org from the account that submitted it. A property that reported a guest in error, or has settled the matter since, should say so – a withdrawn report is removed far more readily than a contested one.
Can a guest see that my property reported them?
Not from the register. Published records carry the guest’s details and the category only, never the reporting property. Your property is identified to the independent consultant if the guest appeals, which is the only route by which it becomes known.
