Hotel Blacklist Appeal and Complaints
If you have found your name on the Hotel Blacklist, we have an independent appeal process to investigate the registration and review supporting documentation from all parties.
Every record on this register is submitted by a verified accommodation provider and approved before it was published, so an appeal IS NOT a request to delete an entry on demand. The Hotel Blacklist will decide 100% independently if a registration warrants to be removed or remain on our database.
When an independent investigation is concluded, a final decision will be provided to all parties into whether the record warrants deletion or should remain live on our database and searchable by Google, Bing, Yandex and Baidu allowing the reported name to appear in a general web search in perpetuity.
How a hotel blacklist appeal works
Step one
The Hotel Black List appoints an independent external consultant (fees apply).
Step two
The consultant identifies the accommodation provider that made the report.
Step three
The consultant contacts that provider and investigates the allegations.
Step four
The consultant arbitrates a removal outcome with the accommodation provider and the banned person.
The appeal procedure and mediation are carried out by external paid consultants appointed by the Hotel Black List team. They are not employed by this register and they are not employed by the reporting property, which is what keeps the finding impartial.
What you need before you start an appeal
The structure of the Hotel Blacklist database is broad and a search of your name maybe a coincidence and not specifically identifying you as an individual. When a registration is made on our website, we do not collect any personal data or contact Information about a Banned Guest. To get started with an appeal, we will need to identify you first with your email address, contact number and full name. This basic information will assist our team to verify if the registration on our database applies to you or is only a synchronicity.
Gather the following information before you wish to start the appeals process:
- The name and city exactly as they appear on the register.
- If the accommodation provider is known to you, the dates of your stay and the booking reference. If unknown, we will contact the accommodation provider who registered your name and, will reverse engineer the identifying process to confirm the registration applies to you.
- Correspondence with the property, receipts or photographs.
- A short written account of events in your own words.
An appeal with no supporting documentation is likely to fail, because the external consultant only has the accommodations version of events to assess and consider.
What a hotel blacklist appeal costs and how long it takes
Upon receiving an appeal we will assess if can be resolved quickly without additional cost. For complicated allegations and/or if both parties are unwilling to cooperate an external consultant will be appointed and Fees apply paid by the person appealing. How long an appeal takes depends almost entirely on how quickly both parties respond; an appeal can be concluded in weeks; or considerably longer if either party is uncooperative.
What happens when a record is removed
A removed record does not simply disappear quietly. The address returns a permanent “removed” response to search engines rather than an ordinary error page, which is what gets it dropped from search results quickly instead of lingering in Google’s index for months. The entry also disappears from the A-Z register and from the data files this site publishes.
Making a complaint
Anonymous complaints will be ignored. Complaints are investigated independently and without prejudice, and are dealt with confidentially. Complainants are treated respectfully and will not suffer any reprisal from a hotel accommodation user for making a complaint.
To make a complaint, email your concerns to admin@hotelblacklist.org. If your concern is about how your personal data is handled, you may also contact your national data protection authority.
Hotel blacklist appeal: common questions
Can a record be removed just because I disagree with it?
No. The external consultant weighs what the property reported against what you provide. Disagreement on its own is not grounds for removal; evidence that the report was mistaken or unjustified is.
Will the property that reported me know I have appealed?
Yes. Step three is contacting them, so an appeal cannot be investigated without their involvement.
What kind of conduct gets someone listed?
Six categories, set out on what is guest misconduct. A listing must fall into one of them and must be justified with evidence before it is approved.
How do I check whether I am on the register?
Search your own name on the search page. Records are public, so you do not need an account to look.
